A meaningful share of window problems are repairs wearing replacement costumes, and fix-first thinking is usually the economical instinct.

What repairs well: hardware and balances, weatherstripping and glazing, individual glass panes in repairable frames, stuck sashes freed and made to glide, early rot caught and treated, and screens as a matter of course. What does not: fogged insulated glass (the seal is the unit; its failure is final) and frames past structural honesty. The craft is telling those apart, and older wood windows — the old-growth frames this region's housing carries — reward repair more often than replacement marketing suggests.

Describe each problem window: what it does or refuses to do, the frame material and rough era, and photos close enough to show the trouble. Batch them — the house's full window punch list in one visit prices far better than serial calls. If the deeper question is repair-versus-replace across many windows, say so; the honest evaluation triages the inventory into fix-now, fix-eventually, and genuinely-replace, which is exactly the map a staged plan needs.
